Traditional Hand Finishing Part 2
Course Programme


DAY 1.

Conserving and restoring varnished, painted/ decorated, waxed or French polished surfaces. Reducing ink and water marks.

DAY 2.

Chemically removing old varnish/ paint/ shellac/ wax without affecting the original wood colours. Steel wool, its purpose and the corect way to use it.

DAY 3.

Refreshing stripped surfaces prior to further treatment. Coping with plaster in the grain. How to chemically clean brass and ormolu. Ageing iron and brass.

DAY 4.

Further colouring techniques using spirit or water based opaque and transparent mediums.

DAY 5.

Project work. Heat resistant coatings. Developing wax patination.

Course finished at 4.00 p.m.
