About the tutor
BRUCE LUCKHURST
has made and restored furniture for over forty five years. He is a refreshingly
original thinker who has a wide range and depth of experience. He sets
demanding standards of himself and his students and has international
recognition as one of the very best teachers of his craft.
After working in his parents workshops for twelve years (fifth generation)
he was offered a place in 1975 to study the conservation and restoration
of antique furniture at West Dean College where he graduated with distinction.
Bruce together with his wife, Jane Thomas
developed a series of popular short courses at various colleges in North
America, Scandinavia and the U.K. After seventeen years of international
short course teaching, the school in Bethersden has been extended to
accommodate
those short courses. Sadly Jane died in 2009.
Over the years they had designed and developed numerous vocation courses
for the following institutions:
August Abrahamsons Stiftelse, Naas, Sweden.
College of the Redwoods (James Krenov School), Fort Bragg, California
U.S.A.
The Countryside Agency, Salisbury, England.
Hoegskolen Telemark, Rauland, Norway.
London College of Furniture (now London Guildhall University).
Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, Portland, Oregon, U.S.A.
University of California, Los Angeles, U.S.A.
Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton, England.
West Dean College, Chichester, England.
Following the closure after 21 yrs of the academic year
course in the Conservation and Restoration of Antique Furniture at The
Little Surrenden Workshops, his short course teaching programme
can now be accommodated at the school. For course titles, dates and costs
